Crisproot Chips ™ are made from the roots of the Cassava shrub (manihoc esculenta) that is native to South America but is cultivated all over Asia, South America, and Africa.
Cassava (also known as tapioca, manioc and yuca) grows in arid conditions all year round, and needs very little water for cultivation. This makes it the perfect drought-tolerant crop the world over, especially in sub-Saharan regions of Africa and rocky, mountainous landscapes in South America.
Cassava root is the primary energy source for 800 million people all over the planet, and there are wonderful efforts going on right now to teach even more communities how to grow and harvest cassava.
Our Thoughts
I am blown away by these cassava chips, truly. I cannot think of any substitute for potato chips that mimics the look, size, crunch, texture than these! The texture reminds me of the kettle chips, a bit harder than regular chips but they are oh-so-good!
The flavors were spot on. I fell in love with the Thai Ginger, that chip could go with so many dinners, lunch and sandwich mixtures it is unreal. Such a delicious flavor, I could snack on those forever. By far my favorite is the BBQ, I have a soft spot for anything BBQ as I'm originally from Kansas City. These were spot on with flavor. They went great with both burgers and tuna alike!
My children were not too fond of the Ginger or BBQ, however they don't like anything that has too much flavor so they stuck with the Original and Sea Salt and lets just say, those chips didn't last long! Their favorite snack is tuna and chips and these fit the bill!
I would highly recommend these chips as an alternative to potato chips if you're wanting a much healthier snack. Did I mention they're gluten-free? Always a plus! It's amazing how this:
