I am definitely not an extreme couponer. But I do try to save as much money as possible. I clip coupons and check circulars and average a savings of around $50-$100 a week. Last month, I revealed that my young adult novel, "Phantom" was accepted by Pagan Writers Press. Since then, I have been hard at work with the publisher and my amazing editor, Rosa Sophia, getting this book polished up for publication in 2012. One of my favorite scenes in Phantom includes a belly dance routine. I can't say any more about that because I don't want to give away information about a pivotal scene in the story. But I can tell you a little about the amazing woman who inspired the scene. Her name is Laura "Tempest" Schimdt, and she is a world renown Gothic Belly Dancer.
I consider myself truly blessed to have not only met Tempest, but to have shared Sacred Space with her on a few occasions. About three years ago, I was introduced to Tempest through my best friend and coven sister, Donna. She was taking her belly dance class at a local gym, and convinced me to come along. Now, I am just about the most uncoordinated person in the world, and learning even the simplest steps was a challenge for me. But Tempest had the patience of an angel, and always took a few extra moments to try to help me get it right. I was only able to go to few classes before I got pregnant with my daughter and was on bed rest. By the time she was born, Tempest had moved, but those few classes were an experience I will never forget.
In addition to taking her class, I also attended a few professional performances that Tempest arranged in our area. The class was fun, but was nothing compared to watching Tempest perform live. When she begins to move, its like she is magically transformed into the Goddess herself. Her movements are fluid and graceful. Her costumes (which she often designs herself) are enchanting. She has created her own version of Gothic Belly Dance that is elegant and breathtaking. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Even as a writer, I find it hard to express just how amazing it is to watch her perform. Tempest is one of the most beautiful woman I have had the privilege to meet. It is a beauty that emanates from her soul and is transferred to the fluid movements of her body. All the wisdom of the ages is expressed in the poetic motions of her dance. She is a true artist.

Our Thoughts: Christmas comes and goes so quickly. I hate having to take down the tree and send the kids back to school. Its nice to find fun ways to extend the holiday. A great way to do that is with holiday movies. A perfect choice for a little after holiday cheer, is "Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas." Its only about half an hour long, so its a great way to relax after dinner or before bed and still have time for other family activities. The story is an adorable tale about the Ice Age crew trying to get Sid off Santa's naughty list after he accidently breaks Manny's Christmas ball that he gives to his daughter, Peaches. I was happy to see the full all star cast return including Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, and Dennis Leary. And of course our favorite prehistoric squirrel, Scat, is still after that elusive acorn.

Our Thoughts: If there is anything better than Hershey's Milk Chocolate, its Hershey's Milk Chocolate with a big old almond in the center. I like to know what goes into my food and I am always looking for new brands that are made with wholesome and healthy ingredients, but still taste good. A great little company I found, called Laura's Wholesome Junk Food , does just that and more. Their line of products are perfect for people who are making a New Year's resolution to eat healthier, but taste so good that everyone will want to give them a try. I was lucky enough to try out several of their tasty product and my whole family loved them.
Laura's Cookies were a big hit in my house! The box just about a week ago, and when I brought the first box out after dinner I think they were all gone within five minutes. We got to try the oatmeal chocolate chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Xtreme Chocolate Fudge, Mint Double Fudge and more. I was really impressed with how much flavor they had. Most healthy alternative foods taste like card board, but these were really tasty. But they also aren't disgustingly sweet like some regular cookies can be. The cookies were nice and chewy, just the way I like them. All in all, a great cookie experience and I know we'll be getting these cookies again.

I know the holidays aren't even over yet, but I have a little girl with a birthday in January, so even before the tree is packed up, I'm already shopping again. Today is Yule, The Winter Solstice, and many people from many cultures are celebrating the return of the sun. Even Christmas is celebrated in December to correspond with this important celestial event. I came across this yahoo video yesterday, thanks to NJ Pagans, and thought it would be interesting to share. It gives a quick summary of the solstice and how it ties into many modern day celebrations.

Sometimes I get tired of toys that make noise and provide no educational value. Its important for young children to develop their imaginations now.
