Our Thoughts
So . . . Minnesota winters.  Space heaters are a must, right?  Somewhere in the neighborhood of 20+ years ago when we bought this house, it had an old "octopus" style gravity furnace (which was a coal burner converted to natural gas).  Plus our 1901 house had zero insulation in the main level (not crappy insulation, I mean NONE!).  IT. WAS. COLD.  With no insulation and a gravity furnace, the gas bill was sky high.  We turned to space heaters to save some money and have enjoyed them ever since (even though we now have a new furnace and insulation in the walls).   Over the years we've tried out many different styles, most of which are  . . . well, they look like a space heater and they don't fit in with any decor.  This is our first infrared heater.

Okay, first off - isn't that a nice looking space heater? It's not what comes to mind when I think of a typical space heater. Heat Storm has two woodgrain color choices: oak and dark walnut.  The Logan Deluxe is "dark walnut".

So, how much heat does it put out?  Answer: A lot!  The ambient room temperature is displayed and you can also set your desired room temperature, ranging from 40 to 99F. It lets you know you've selected the "Eco" setting by showing a green leaf.

The Logan Deluxe really does QUICKLY put out heat - I mean, we first put it in our home office and in a minute or two the room was toasty.  Granted the home office is a small room and the Logan is designed for a medium/large room - but it gives you an idea just how quickly it can heat a room. Pictured, the heater is in my dining room which opens directly to the living room, and the heater is aimed toward the living room.  The two room sizes together (open floor plan) are perfect for this size of infrared heater.

Here the Logan Deluxe is running, it looks nice running, too. I love the grill in front of the orange glow - adds a nice touch instead of a typical electric space heater's (ugly, haha) chrome grill. The digital display is large enough to see it from across the room.  It also comes with a remote, so you can turn it on/off and change the heat settings from wherever you are in the room.  While putting out the heat, the heater remains cool to the touch, so I don't have to worry about my son getting burned if he touches it.

My favorite feature is castors!  I can easily move the Logan Deluxe from room to room - over a hard floor or over carpet, it rolls smoothly.

While browsing HeatStorm.com, the Wave Floor to Wall unit also caught my eye.  Now this one looks more like a typical space heater BUT it's slim and meant for places where there's just not much floor space.  This particular one can go either on the floor OR hang on the wall.  Pretty cool!  Or maybe I should say, HOT! :)

Okay, so YES - totally in love with Heat Storm's infrared heaters!  Looks nice, heats nice, easy to use, easy to move. Highly recommend!

Filter Snap - Delivery filter service for your home

If you think you have clean air in your house, think again. If you haven’t changed your air filters, you’re not only wasting energy and upping your energy bill by some 15%, but you’re also exposing your family to an array of pollutants that would keep you awake at night if you knew about them.

So be sure to add filter changing to your fall to-do list – and to make it easy, use a service like Filter Snap that delivers filters to your door on any schedule you choose. Just tell the company your filter size (you’ll find it on your existing filter), and select the filter quality you’d like (basic, standard or ultimate) and the replacement schedule (1, 2, 3, 6 or 12 months). When the box shows up, you’ll know it’s time for a filter change. Your family – and your allergies – will love you for it.

My thoughts

My daughter has allergies and asthma, so changing the filters in our heating system isn't something I take lightly. We change it regularly every three months. This should be an easy task, but I live in a super small town. The only hardware store that isn't an hour away is a little mom and pop shop that doesn't carry the size we need.  We're faced with the choice of dragging four kids up to the chain store in the next county over or waiting weeks for the little shop to order one in. But now, thanks to Filter Snap, things just got a lot easier.

Filter Snap is a subscription service that allows you to select the filter best suited to you and have it shipped like clock work on a schedule you select.. Even if you have a better selection than I do in your hometown, this service still saves you the hassle of going to the store. Honestly, before it became a health issue for my child, I barely ever remembered to change the filter regularly. With Filter  Snap, you won't have to worry about remembering. It will show up on your door step at just the right time.

Singing up for the program is simple and quick.  You simply select the size of your filter, how often you'd like to receive replacements, and enter in your billing information. After that, you'll never have to think about filters again. I was able to get a high quality filter for under $15 and that included their super-fast shipping. I paid way more than that for the filters I used to purchase at the hardware store.

Of course,  cancel your subscription at any time. They will even send you reminders before the filter is shipped in case you aren't quite ready for a new one and want to reschedule. You simply can't go wrong with Filter Snap. They make upkeep on your heater a breeze.

Holiday Gift Guide - Patton Recirculating Utility Heater Review & Giveaway

***Product was received for free in exchange for an honest review.***

Patton® Recirculating Utility Heater (MSRP: $49.99)
Warm your workshop with the durable and effective Patton® Recirculating Utility Heater!  Ideal for the blistery winter months, this rugged heater is designed for use in workshops.  Recirculating heat technology warms your space up to 30% faster than traditional personal heaters with 2 heat settings and a 1500-watt maximum. Featuring large knobs and handles, this heater is easy to use while wearing gloves, and the rugged construction and durable housing are perfect for use in the workshop this winter.

Our Thoughts

Having been extremely familiar with using utility heaters to warm ourselves in the winter I wanted to try out the Patton Recirculating Utility Heater. Upon turning the heater on you could feel the heat instantly. I placed my hand about 12 inches in front of the heater and it was definitely radiating heat.

One interesting point that I noticed with this heater is that the "main" heat stream was pointing upwards. I had never seen that before on a heater but it really made it effective to heat up our small back bedroom. It only takes about three minutes before the bedroom would be up to a comfortable temperature. This will be an excellent choice for a shop heater and with the holidays right around the corner, think ahead of time for the special men or women in your life that spend time outdoors!

Whether you're working with gloves in your shop or not the dials are smooth to turn and easily moveable with some bulky gloves on. There is also an easy "off" setting so that you do not have to worry about constantly plugging and unplugging the heater, which is a big pain from personal experience.

A great heater, warms very quickly and efficiently!
