Molly of Denali: Molly and the Great One

When 10-year-old Alaska Native Molly Mabray learns about Grandpa Nat's dream to reach the top of Denali, North America's highest mountain, she helps him and her father prepare for the expedition. Meanwhile, her friend Trini Mumford is busy getting ready for her mother's first visit to Qyah.

Plus, join Molly as she takes a traditional canoe trip in Juneau, keeps a frog she found as a pet and much more in eight additional fun-filled stories!

My Thoughts

Molly of Denali is a new PBS series that centers around a brave little girl named Molly. She is descended from the indigenous people of Alaska and goes on many adventures in her native land. In this DVD, there is a full length film  where Molly meets with an elder as well as several other fun episodes including:

  • Molly and the Great One
  • Rocky Rescue
  • Canoe Journey
  • Picking Cloudberries
  • Puzzled
  • Froggy of Denali
  • Molly Mabray and the Mystery Stone
  • Busy Beavers
  • The Night Watchers

PBS has put out a lot of great series over the years, but this is one of my favorites so far. I love that my children are meeting a strong female character with indigenous roots. It teaches them about diversity and the history of Alaska. You can grab a copy for yourself on Amazon and PBS.org.
