Acorn TV features the return of the must-see medical dramedy THE HEART GUY, Series 3 (aka Doctor Doctor in Australia) with its DVD debut on April 2, 2019. Akin to an Australian Doc Martin with its fish-out-of-water premise and eccentric characters, the series follows a charming and genius doctor (Rodger Corser, Netflix’s Glitch, PBS’s The Doctor Blake Mysteries) forced to return to his hometown and become a local doctor after his personal life spins out of control. The DVD 3-Disc Set features 10 episodes ($59.99, Amazon.com). The Heart Guy, Series 3 made its U.S. premiere in November 2018 on Acorn TV. The series continues to be one of Acorn TV’s and Australia’s most popular series and has been renewed for a fourth series. Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), Acorn TV is North America’s most popular and largest streaming service focused on British and international television.
This hit Australian dramedy stars the “effortlessly charming” (Boston Herald) Rodger Corser as Hugh Knight, a brilliant but arrogant heart surgeon forced to give up his high-flying job in Sydney to work as a GP in his rural hometown of Whyhope. In Series 3, Hugh’s probation for his misdeeds is coming to a close, but he has mixed feelings about leaving his budding relationship with hospital boss Penny (Hayley McElhinney, The Babadook).
Then tragedy rocks the Knights, and Hugh learns he has inherited the family farm—along with $11 million in debt. While Hugh’s mother, Meryl (Tina Bursill, Home and Away), and brother, Matt (Ryan Johnson, Rake, Fairly Legal), process their grief in vastly different ways, Matt’s wife, Charlie (Nicole da Silva, Wentworth), receives an unexpected guest that complicates matters. With his family in chaos and his career on the line, Hugh is faced with a difficult choice: return to his glamorous life in Sydney or stay with the people who need him in Whyhope.

My Thoughts
The Heart Guy is a fun series that merges medical drama and comedy into one fun package. The series centers around a genius heart doctor named named Hugh Knight. His life is going great until he is arrested for a drugs charge. Now he has to return home and work in the little hospital where he grew up. This leads to conflicts with his family, especially his ex who married his brother. Series three has ten exciting episodes.
Tell Her Its Over - Everyone is mourning for Jim, but his will causes feuds. Hugh's probation might be over.
Isn't She Lovely - Hugh decides to stay in Whyhope but is having trouble adjusting to farm life. Penny is confused by her feelings for Hugh.
Shock Rock - Charlie's father shows up with company. Hugh gets a letter from his ex.
Runaway Baby - Hugh thinks he made a mistake making an arrangement with Penny. Penny rescues a wombat. Ivy feels abandoned by her mother.
When We Collide - Carlito takes off without Ivy. Haley returns with a baby.
Call Me Irresponsible - Hugh throws out his back on the farm. Meryl hosts speed dating.
Don't Wanna Let You Go - There's meth going around the mines. Meryl unveils an art project. Matt wants to grow the brewery's brand.
Wet Weekends - Ajax doesn't want Hugh to sell the farm. Matt goes out with an old friend but an accident ruins the night.
Suspicious Minds - Meryl & Hugh fight over the farm sale. Matt has doubts about his relationship with April.
No Laughing Matter -Meryl makes trouble with the farm sale. Hugh decides to induce Harriet's labor and gets ready to start a new job in Sydney. Matt tries to make amends with Charlie.
This is a great show. There is lots of drama, but also plenty of humor. I'm enjoying the gradual evolution of Hugh as he starts to come to terms with his new life and realize the errors in the way he lived before. I also love the love triangle with the brothers. I'm excited to see what happens next season.
