Murdoch Mysteries: Once Upon a Murdoch Christmas
Days before Christmas in Edwardian-era Toronto, Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) is called to investigate a daring train robbery. When witnesses insist the culprit exhibited superhuman abilities, Constable Crabtree (Jonny Harris, Still Standing) realizes the robber bears a striking resemblance to the title character of his new graphic novel, Jumping Jack. As more robberies targeting gifts from Eaton’s luxury department occur around Toronto, Murdoch and his team are forced to consider the possibility that Crabtree’s character has come to life. As Station House No. 4 contends with the real-life Jumping Jack, Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig, Coronation Street) orders the formation of a police choir, and Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy, Durham County) tries to help two orphans who mistake her for a fairytale heroine. Can Murdoch and his team stop Jumping Jack from stealing Christmas?
My Thoughts
I think this is one of my favorite crime based shows. I love period drama, and I love learning about criminal investigations. This show combines both in a late 1890 - early 1900 setting. You'll learn how forensics experts solved the cases before they had the help of computers and DNA. The cast of characters are funny, interesting, and diverse.
This DVD brings us a special full-length Christmas episode. It takes place on Christmas-Eve in Toronto. A train is sobbed, and it seems as though the culprit has magical abilities. He also seems to be modeling himself after a fictional character known as Jumping Jack. As the thief targets additional businesses, the team struggle to find a culprit that seems to have jumped from the pages of a graphic novel.
I really enjoyed this holiday episode of Murdoch. It's gotten me in the mood for the Christmas season, and I loved seeing the team dressed up in their finery. If you want to check out this holiday DVD with a touch of murder and mayhem, be sure to pick up a copy from Acorn Media or Amazon.
