Murdoch Mysteries Season 10

One of Acorn’s most popular series, MURDOCH MYSTERIES debuts Season 10 on DVD/Blu-ray on August 15, 2017 from Acorn TV, an RLJ Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. Garnering more than two dozen Gemini® nominations and the sole 2016 ‘Fan’s Choice Award’ at the Canadian Screen Awards for Yannick Bisson, Murdoch Mysteries has found a huge audience in North America for its period charm, entertaining mysteries, and likeable characters. Set in Toronto in the late 1890s and early 1900s during the age of invention, the mystery series centers on Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective, who enlists radical new forensic techniques like fingerprinting, ultraviolet light, and trace evidence to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. The DVD 5-Disc and Blu-ray 4-Disc sets each feature 18 episodes and bonus making-of featurettes ($59.99 each, Amazon.com). Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter), Acorn TV is the premier North American streaming service for world-class TV from Britain and beyond and debuted Season 10 in January 2017. Murdoch Mysteries first aired on City and CBC Television in Canada and also airs, after Acorn TV, on the Ovation Channel in the U.S. as The Artful Detective.

Smart and engaging, this award-winning Canadian series returns as Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye) and his friends solve new mysteries in Edwardian-era Toronto. In Season 10, Dr. Julia Ogden (Gemini® winner Hélène Joy, Durham County) deals with post-traumatic stress from her near-death experience; Constable Crabtree (Jonny Harris, Hatching, Matching & Dispatching) faces relationship problems; Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig, Where the Heart Is) gets caught up with a passion for soccer; and morgue attendant Rebecca James (Mouna Traoré, Carrie) determinedly pursues her medical education.

As Murdoch and his team face murdered debutantes and cutthroat athletes amid historical events like the Great Toronto Fire of 1904, old enemies come back to haunt them. Along the way, they encounter some of the greatest minds of the time, including horror author H.P. Lovecraft and inventor Reginald Fessenden. Guest stars include Samantha Bond (Downton Abbey), Ari Millen (Orphan Black), Peter Keleghan (The Red Green Show), and singer Alan Doyle

My Thoughts

Murdoch Mysteries is one of my favorite crime based shows. I love period drama, and I love learning about criminal investigations. This show combines both in a late 1890 - early 1900 setting. You'll learn how forensics experts solved the cases before they had the help of computers and DNA.  The cast of characters are funny, interesting, and diverse. This season includes 18 new episodes.

Great Balls of Fire Part 1 - Several women are interested in a wealthy bachelor, but one of them turns up dead.

Great Balls of Fire Part 2 - Another women is killed and a fire makes it hard to investigate.

A Study in Pink - Murdoch's old friend turned private investigator Pink gets himself in trouble.

Concocting a Killer - An old case is re-opened and Murdoch realized he may have sent the wrong man to prison.

Jagged Little Pill - Murdoch is investigating the poisoning of a businessman while Rebecca questions the suicide of a fellow student.

Bend it Like Brackenreid - Murdoch investigates the death of a football player.

Painted Ladies - Several men are found dead with telltale lipstick smudges that lead Murdoch to question a dancer.

Weekend at Murdoch's - Murdoch pretends a victim is still alive to try to catch the killer.

Excitable Chap - A killer in costume lurks around the city.

Once Upon a Murdoch Christmas - Christmas starts out slow until a pair of bombers crash a party.

The Devil Inside - Murdoch has a killer who claims the devil made him do it.

A Murdog Mystery - Murdoch investigates the death of a champion dog.

From Murdoch to Eternity - Murdoch develops a tonic that restores vitality and seeks a partner.

Hades Hath No Fury - An explosion may be connected to a women Murdoch is already investigating.

Master Lovecraft - A young girl is killed and Murdoch suspects a group of teenagers.

Hot Wheels of Thunder - A roller-skating champion is killed and her competitors are suspects.

Hell to Pay - Murdoch finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy when when a danger asks for help.
All of episodes are a bit on the dark side, but they are always tempered with humor. Both the costumes and the sets are realistic and really help to paint a picture of the time period.   This series is definitely a refreshing switch from the norm, and I'm looking forward to watching the  next season. If you want to take the advantage of a full set of amazing old world  stories, than this is the box set for you. You can order Murdoch Mysteries: Season 10 on DVD on Acorn Media or amazon.
