The sweeping romantic film, Disney/Dreamworks Pictures’ The Light Between Oceans, arrives on Digital HD, Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand on Jan. 24th. This beautiful romance stars two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender (Best Actor, Steve Jobs), Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Best Supporting Actress, The Danish Girl), and Oscar and Golden Globe winner Rachel Weisz (Best Supporting Actress, The Constant Gardener).
The timeless tale of love, relationships, and impossible choices is a must for any of lush, beautiful romantic movies. This release includes never-before-seen bonus features, including a documentary which reveals director Derek Cianfrance’s unique approach that allowed the all-star cast to embody their characters and examine the power of love; a historical look at New Zealand’s Cape Campbell Lighthouse that serves as Janus Rock, a key element in Stedman’s novel; and insightful and in-depth audio commentary led by Cianfrance.
My Thoughts
This is a really sweet historical romance. Tom is a former solider suffering from PSTD. He takes on a job at a lighthouse. On his brief visit back to the shore, he falls in love with Isabel. The two of them are thrilled to live alone on their island. Their life is perfect until they discover they can't have children, but even that problem is magically solved when a baby washes up on their island. But the real mother isn't out of the picture for good. Will they get to keep their baby? And if not, can their love survive?
I loved this movie. I was captivated by this simple but passionate love story. I would love to live out on an island and run a light house, splashing around in a ocean without a bunch of tourists littering. I live by the ocean and love the off season when I can walk alone on miles of sand, so I completely relate to this couple. Their bond throughout their troubles makes them even more endearing. This is certainly a unique love story, and one I highly recommend.
