Book Review : THE CRAFTSMAN by Sola Oyefara

The Craftsman is brimming with vivid stories and imagery and in-depth inquiry into many aspects of human existence from the physical to the spiritual. The poetry collection soars in an expansive and imaginative manner that is both joyous and mystical, and takes readers on a wildly creative exploration of being.
This unique collection explores the art of creation – who created, who creates, how to create and how creators tend to lose themselves in their creations – in distinct sections that identify with a unique theme:
• The idea that the human being is a meld of different selves in perpetual conflict, constantly sifting human thoughts toward an impulse and ultimately towards activity.
• That within each individual is a spiritual seed, urged toward growth and destined to unfold a unique tale.
• The Cosmos contracts within each individual. This casts the cosmos itself in new light.
The book contains reflections on the nature of original sin, self-observation and discovery, the madness and folly of life, and on the nature of death, as well as the inclusion of African incantations. While the language is lyrical and evocative, the visual art pieces are fearsome – visages of ancient African gods, monarchs and masquerades – spiritual beings as altered manifestations of humans.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed reading through this book.  It is full of beautiful poetry, as well of some really cool art thoughout this book.  Sola Oyefara is an amazing poet.  I was drawn into many of the pages in this book.  And I even chuckled at some that I read.
This is a book that you can pick up and skim through to read.  Each time you go through it, you will get drawn into a different page.  I will definitely keep this in my personally home library.
