Movie Review : A Green Story

***Complimentary product received in exchange for an honest review***

Van Vlahakis left Greece five decades ago with only $22 dollars in his pocket and headed for the U.S. hoping for a better future for his family. Eftichios (as is his Greek name), not only managed to live the American dream, but also created one of the largest environmentally safe concepts - Earth Friendly Products, now a US giant in eco-friendly products. His story covers his life as it transforms from immigrant to CEO of Earth Friendly Products. The story centers on the modern day Vlahakis who is diagnosed with cancer and given only few months to live. As he reflects on his early life as an immigrant during the 1950's, he decides to push himself to the limit by closing one final business deal that will solidify his company's success even if it means taking on one of the largest corporations on the planet.

My Thoughts

Van came to America from Greece with big dreams. He worked his way to top chemist at a big company, but refused to compromise his morals when they wanted him to use chemicals he felt were unsafe for people and the environment. He eventually started his own company and created some of the first green cleaning products on the market. Just when he has the chance to get picked up with a national retailer, he gets a devastating diagnoses.  But Van overcomes illness, corporate big guns, and treachery from his own employees to bring the world a safer option for their homes.

Based on a true tale, A Green Story is a stunning look at one man's journey. Having been a loyal customer of ECOS laundry detergent for several years, I was excited to learn the history behind one of my favorite brands.  In between the primary storyline, we also get glimpses of Van's early life, from his childhood in Greece during WW II to his days as a young father struggling to get by as an immigrant. Van not only worked hard to create a successful business, but he did it without comprising his own morels and that is a stunning accomplishment in itself. The cast did a great job bringing to life a story that was definitely worth sharing with the world.
