My Thoughts

Animal Planet  and Discovery Kids brings dinosaurs back from extinction with their amazing remote control toys. The Flying Pterodactyl is definitely a fun choice for kids this holiday season because this guy really flies.  The toy is a wireless remote control flyer that comes with the Pterodactyl, transmitter, antenna, instruction manual and four extra propellers. The transmitter requires six AA batteries, but the Pterodactyl can be charged by connecting it to the transmitter. Once charged, we've gotten an average of  three to five minutes flying time. As far as maneuvering, I found the instruction manual to be extremely helpful. It specifies how to achieve certain flight patterns to avoid crashes and gives clear, step by step instructions on how to work the transmitter.

My son has a little experience with flying toys. He's been flying toy helicopters for several years. The remote on this is very similar, so he had no trouble maneuvering and controlling his Pterodactyl. For new flyers, it may make a little more practice, but don't be discouraged. Once you get the hang of it, it's simple and fun. My only concern is that the wings are very lightweight, similar to Styrofoam. They could easily break if you crash to the ground or hit a tree or house. I would definitely recommend flying only in a large open field until you master the controls. I also would have liked the charge to last a little longer, but my son was really happy with it and runs down to the field as soon as he gets home from school each day to get it for a ride.

The Pterodactyl is only one of dozens of amazing toys you can find at Animal Planet and Discovery Kids. Here are a few more items on our wish list:
