FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. – May 22, 2013 – IOGEAR
introduced today its two new high-capacity GearPower mobile charging stations
to address consumers’ diverse needs for different sizes and capabilities. The
pocket-sized 7,000mAh (milliampere-hours) and 2,400mAh mobile power stations
provide quick, convenient charging for drained devices in any location and
complete IOGEAR’s GearPower product family, which is led by the recently
released 11,000mAh GMP10K unit.
The (4.69” x 2.83” x .67”, 6.4 ounce) GMP7K (MSRP: $59.95)
provides 7,000mAh capacity, 2.1A charging current and dual USB outputs that
feature intelligent power management. With a single device connected, the GMP7K
delivers 2.1A output to fast-charge an iPad, or the unit delivers 1A on each
output to simultaneously charge most smartphones, MP3 Players, digital cameras
and handheld gaming systems. The compact lithium polymer cell will charge an
iPhone® 5 four times and has built-in short-circuit, over-charge and
temperature protection. The GMP7K offers one of the highest power
capacities with the lowest price, answering consumers’ demand for
cost-effective charging solutions.
“The two new GearPower mobile power stations support traveling
consumers with portable charging options in varying capacities to suit their
needs,” said IOGEAR CEO Jack Wang. “IOGEAR will continue to develop
competitively priced solutions that fit into our evolving mobile landscape.”
Both GMP7K and GMP2K units complement the recently released GMP10K
(MSRP: $79.95), the highest capacity Mobile Power Station in the GearPower
family. The GMP2K offers fuel for a quick recharge when wall outlets or car
ports are not available. The GMP7K will keep a businessperson’s tablet,
smartphone or Bluetooth headset fully charged between flights and layovers. The
GMP10K will recharge a smartphone and tablet or camera simultaneously with 11,000mAh
of battery capability. Together, IOGEAR provides consumers a full spectrum of
mobile charging options to meet their power needs.

Our Thoughts:
When I saw the review opportunity come thru for an IOGEAR mobile charging station I got a little ridiculously excited. I chose the GMP2K to review.
This is a nice sleek little unit. It's about the same size as my cell phone, and weighs slightly less. Easy to toss in my purse and go! While most would probably use this for smartphones, ipads, tablets, and other devices, I just have an old non-smart cell phone, and have no interest in owning the other electronic devices. I wanted the GMP2K for what else it could be - an outdoor survival tool of sorts. We often are at our remote cabin in NW Ontario, and up until very, very recently we could only make calls, but now we can send/receive text messages up there! (Still no picture messages, LOL!) Roaming sucks down our phone batteries fairly quickly. We have solar power at the cabin, and if we have cloudy weather, to save on energy, we don't charge our phones. This power station allows us to charge our phones off grid, so we can stay in contact with family/friends in the event of emergencies, not to mention being able to get ahold of emergency personnel should we need it! There's also been many times where I'm out and about, and go to use my cell and it's almost dead. But, if I'm not near my Jeep, and if I don't have the diaper bag, I don't have my car charger - which is kept IN the diaper bag to make sure I have it when I have the kid along for longer trips. Now, I can just plug in right while on the go! And when the charging station needs to be recharged, I can just plug it into my computer or a wall outlet via cables. EASY!
Huge thumbs up from me!
