Our Thoughts

I'm always looking for new Sign Language books as Sign Language is something that my children and husband MUST learn due to my Uncle being profoundly deaf. While this is one of the better book sets/kits that I've seen on the market, it still does not explain the signs as well as I'd like to see -I'm kind of picky about these things since Sign Language was my first language- but even someone who has not signed before can figure out the sign pretty easily. I think that it is a great start if you're looking to teach your baby Sign Language as it comes with the flash cards, the wall chart, the dictionary, and a guide book. 

In my opinion, the flash cards and the guide book are the biggest components to this kit. The flash cards allow you to challenge your older child(ren) to sign the appropriate sign by seeing the picture of the item. The guide book gives you an idea of where, when and how to start using Sign Language with your baby. It also starts you in the right direction for speaking and sign as the child gets older and needs to become more vocal. I have noticed in my experiences with my own children that they are less frustrated as they learn more signs because even though they don't know how to vocalize what the issue is sometimes, they can sign it to me. The only downfall I see of this is that conversations between my mom, my uncle and sometimes even my husband (with the simplest signs) are no longer covert. :-) I guess that means that it's time to learn a new language just to keep the kids on their toes!
