OMG! Its Like Totally 80's - JEM And The Holograms: Season One DVD Review

Upon the death of her father, Jerrica Benton inherits Starlight Music and finds herself the new co-owner executive alongside the greedy, power-hungry Eric Raymond. Eric is on a mission to seize complete control of Starlight Music as well as use it to launch to stardom his latest discovery — rockin’ rebel girl band The Misfits.

With the help of Synergy — a computer holographic machine created by her father — and a pair of special jemstar earrings, Jerrica is able to transform into the megapop sensation named Jem! With her sister, Kimber, and their band, The Holograms, Jem takes on a battle of the bands competition against Eric and The Misfits for control of Starlight Music. Can Jerrica keep her superstar identity a secret? Will The Misfits rock the charts? Will Synergy fall into the hands of evil? Watch and find out!

It’s Showtime, Synergy!

Our Thoughts:  When I was a little girl, Jem and The Holograms was my all time favorite show. I remember spending hours with my friends playing with the Jem dolls while we watched it together. Even the boys loved it.  So of course I was thrilled to see it get released on DVD so I can share it with my own daughter. As much as I watched it as a kid, seeing all the first season in order was like seeing it for the first time. After Jerrica and Kimber lose their father they discover he created a computer that makes amazing holograms. They use the technology to try to support their foster children by starting a rock group. Jerrica hides her true identity with the illusion of Jem.  Stormer was always my favorite character, even though she was one of the Misfits (the rival band) because she always seemed like she was trying so hard to be a good guy.  The music is fun and the storyline is exciting even though the cartoon graphics are a little old school. From the battle of the bands to the love triangle that poor Rio get trapped in, Jem still leaves me captivated. Watching this brought make so many memories. I can't wait to get Season Two!

If you would like to purchase JEM And The Holograms: Season One for your family, it is available online at Shout Factory for only $18.98.  You can also get the complete series for $59.99

My sister was in love with this show when we were little! Mine was She-Ra, Princess of Power! They don't make cartoons like that anymore. Does anybody remember Zoobalee Zoo?
