One of my children is allergic to gluten. This has presented a lot of problems because we don't want to leave him out or treat him differently. So we try to buy gluten free for everyone as much as possible. It was a big change for all of us. When you buy gluten fee products, they are more expensive than most store brands, so you want to make sure it's worth the purchase price before you buy. American Gluten Free offers a unique subscription service that allows you to sample a variety of unique gluten-free products each month. For as little as $36.95 a month, a new selection gets shipped right to your door, allowing you to sample some of the best gluten-free products on the market and see which ones you enjoy the most.

AGF is a gluten free subscription service providing gluten free foods made in dedicated facilities around the country. They know how strict some people have to be to maintain good health, so they choose to never include products made on shared lines. They are truly cross contamination free and choose to ignore the FDA standard because that limit is still harmful for many people with Celiac Disease. In addition to being gluten free, they are also 100% dairy free! And mostly soy free and vegan although these items will appear from time to time. Everything is free of all the junk, meaning no artificial flavors, colorings, modified or goo ingredients.
This month's box was filled with tons of great items, including hummus, crackers, cookies and more. Many of the items were full size products. Each box contains a note-card that breaks down the different allergens, simply as a courtesy including whether the item is organic and kosher. Here's a little run down of what we got to try:
Luke's Chia Seed Crackers - Crunchy and delicious-a full size box! Plus, they are organic!
True Flavors Hummus - 4 Cups of Hummus that taste great with the crackers.
Anderson's Pure Maple Syrup - So sweet delicious and completely natural-Full size bottle!
Bounce Super Berry Energy Ball - A fruit flavored ball that will really give you a boost of energy.
Home Free Double Chocolate Chip Cookies - This little bag was perfect for my son's lunchbox. They taste great too.
Quinoa Whole Grain - Packed with iron and the perfect substitute for rice. Full size box and certified organic.
Gunshot Sauce- Add a little flavor to your meals with this full marinade.
Some of the brands I received I was familiar with and a few I've even reviewed on this blog, but the flavors were varieties I hadn't had a chance to try yet. Other brands I never heard of before getting my American Gluten Free box, but they were all awesome! If you're looking to try out some new foods that you can feel good about giving to your family and you want to make healthy choices without a lot of guess work, you should definitely give the American Gluten Free subscription box a try. Getting one of these boxes in the mail makes it feel like Christmas every month! To learn more about American Gluten Free and all they have to offer, be sure to visit their website. In
honor of the gluten-free family and friends in your life, celebrate
Celiac Awareness Month this
May with tasty snacks for a Mother’s Day
brunch, graduation celebration or Memorial Day cookout. New Brownie
Thins from PARTNERS, A Tasteful Choice Company are made with cassava
flour and contain no corn, soy or rice. A blend of five ancient grains
makes Brownie Thins a crunchy, non-GMO snack that tops off any spring
celebration.
Following are some tips for hosting your gluten-free friends and family in May:
- Leave
salad dressings and sauces on the side – gluten can hide in surprising
places, and it’s best to let each gluten expert determine what they can
eat.
- Make
sure you have some inherently gluten-free treats on hand. Vegetables,
cheeses and nuts are great snacks for everyone, and gluten-free friends
won’t feel like they’ve disrupted the menu.
- Check your labels – wheat-free does not necessarily mean gluten-free.
- Prepare
and serve gluten-free foods in a clean area of your kitchen, to ensure
no traces of gluten make their way to particularly sensitive folks.
Visit the PARTNERS Free for All Kitchen
line for additional gluten-free and non-GMO goodies to add to your May
celebrations: Olive Oil & Sea Salt, Roasted Garlic & Rosemary,
and Olive Oil & Herb crackers.
My Thoughts
While going gluten-free isn't a requirement for my family, I do believe its a healthier option, so I make an effort to buy products that are gluten-free whenever I can. However, my children aren't going to eat anything that tastes like cardboard. Thankfully, there are delightful snacks like FreeForAll Brownie Bites. These rich, chocolatey morsels are a decadent dark chocolate treat that are completely gluten-free
We got to test out a few bags of Brownie Bites and they didn't last long. They are the size of a cracker, but taste like a yummy cookie. They're like getting a combination of a cookie and a brownie in each square. They are delicious all on their own, but also make a great pairing with fruit. We quickly learned that you can't just stop with one, and both our bags were gone within one day. I'll definitely be looking for Brownie Bites in my local store in the future.
