SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE

In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

My Thoughts

In Smurfs: The Lost Village, Smurfette finds a map that leads to another smurf village. The only problem is that Gargamel captures her and learns about the village too. Smurfette knows she has to warn the other smurfs before the evil wizard can find them. She enlists the help of some of her closet friends, and they set out to find the village. Along the way, they befriend a few cool creatures that lend some assistance. When they reach the village, they are in for a big surprise. There are smurfs, but not the kind they expected. Before they can all get to know each other, Gargamel shows up, and Smurfette may be the only one who can save the village when they are captured.

The Smurfs television show was the staple of my Saturday morning when I was a kid, so I was super excited when they started putting out new movies. This one was my favorite so far. I liked how they used the classic version of Smurfette's creation, and I loved the new tribe of female warrior smurfs. My daughter was especially fond of Smurf Willow since they share the same name.   The magical forest with it's floating water and florescent colors was really cool. The ladybug who likes to take selfies was fun too. Overall, this was a unique addition to a classic. If you're a fan of the Smurfs, you'll want this DVD in your collection.

To help you get excited about the film, we've come up with a fun craft that goes along with the theme of the movie. You can make your very own rocket ship in only a few easy steps. What better way to prepare for the most exciting film of the year than to envision yourself on the same kind of journey. While this rocket will only soar as high as your imagination, it's still a fun way to count down the days to the movie release. 

Here's what you need to get started: A bottle, Popsicle sticks, glue, cardboard, duck tape and crayons (optional). Here are the steps to building your rocket:

1) Use the Popsicle sticks to create four wings as shown. They should be a triangular shape.  The size you need will vary according to the bottle size. Use the glue to hold them together.

2) Use  paper or cardboard for the interior of the wings. You can color them or decorate them if you like or you can cover the whole thing in the duck tape.The wings can be attached to the bottle using the duck tape. 

3) Decorate your rocket in any way you like. Silver duct tape or tin foil will make it look more authentic, but get creative and be expressive!


So there you have it! Your rocket is done. Now all you have to do is count down the days until the release of Interstellar!
