About Mary Riley
The battle between good and evil has many victims...and one witness.
The classic horror story of Dr, Jekyll and Mr. Hyde gets a chilling new twist when seen through the eyes of Dr. Jekyll's devoted maid, Mary Reilly.
Julia Roberts, John Malkovich and the writer and director of Dangerous Liaisons take terror to a new level as the immortal conflict between good and evil is played out in the soul of one man. Equally attracted to her kind employer, Dr. Jekyll, and his mysterious assistant, Mr. Hyde, Mary Reilly must confront her own dangerous desires if she is to survive humanity's greatest evil.
My Thoughts
Mary Riley is a nail-biting suspense/horror film told through the eyes of Henry Jekyll's maid. Mary Riley alone sees the strange change in her master as he transforms from mild mannered doctor to a crazed manic. She suspects he is behind the killings in their city, but who would believe a common maid, even if she wanted to turn him in.
I have always been a huge fan of Jekyll and Hyde, and always enjoy new takes this classic. This is one of the only versions I've seen told through the eyes of a witness. Julia Roberts and John Malkovich are both stellar actors, and the roles couldn't have been better cast. I loved watching the tension grow between them, and seeing Mary so torn between her conscious and her loyalty to her master. I'm thrilled that Mill Creek has released a blu-ray version of the film, and I'm excited to have it in my collection.
