3 Tips for Spring Cleaning during Fall

Fall brings the end of summer and the coming of winter. While spring cleaning is usually something you do after a long winter, cleaning and preparing your home for the upcoming winter is equally as important. Here are 3 tips to spring cleaning your home this fall.

1.      Thoroughly vacuum every room
During summer, people are coming and going. Kids are playing outside, the pets are coming in and out. In other words, there is a lot of transition inside and out, and with that comes a lot of dirt coming in. While you might have been vacuuming consistently, that dirt can find its way in hard to reach places, such as under the furniture and behind the cabinets.

If you can, pull the furniture out of its place, and thoroughly vacuum (https://thestickvacuums.com/) every room in the house. Get out the extra attachments for the vacuum, and clean the window sill, blinds, and upholstery. You want all of that dirt and debris gone before it becomes winter.

2.      Wash the windows
Summer winds and storms kick up the dirt and dirty your windows. If you don’t clean them before winter comes, it can be a lot tougher to motivate yourself to go out in the cold.

If you’re short on time, focus on the outside portion of the windows. Cleaning the inside isn’t nearly as hard during the winter, but chances are you won’t want to venture out in the cold to clean the windows, and fall makes the perfect time to check this off your list.

3.      Service your appliances
The fall is a great time to have your appliances checked and serviced, especially the ones you’ll need most come winter. Don’t wait until the first cold snap to fire up the furnace – make sure it’s in good working order now.

Furnaces smell terrible the first time you run them because of the dust that collects during the summer and then burns off. Rather than waiting until its cold to run the furnace (and having to endure that terrible smell), run it on a warm fall day where you can open up the home.

Additionally, if you do need it repaired, it will be a lot easier to find someone to service it during the fall. Wait until winter and it’s a lot harder to find someone because demand goes up.
