Year Round Flea Protection From Hartz

Hartz, experts in flea and tick solutions for over 55 years, today announced the release of a national consumer ‘No F&T’ campaign to educate pet owners on the importance of year-round flea and tick protection.  This dedicated messaging will be promoted through digital advertising and social media.
The primary flea and tick season in the United States is April – September; however fleas survive throughout the year.  Hartz is committed to educating consumers that a consistently protected pet mounts a stronger defense against flea infestation; an infestation that cannot only pose a threat to the animals, but also to the home.  Hartz has a complete line of flea and tick products, including collars, shampoos, home and garden sprays, and its best prevention product; Hartz® UltraGuard Pro® Flea & Tick Drops for cats and dogs.

Only 5% of the problem is addressed when consumers treat the adult fleas they can actually see,” states Lance Hemsarth, Senior Director, Research & Development at Hartz. “That means the remaining 95% of larvae and eggs left untreated can cause re-infestation. It is our duty as a trusted pet care brand to educate families regarding the health benefits of consistent flea prevention treatment for their pets.”  Like personal health exams and smoke alarm battery checks, establishing preventative behavior aids in overall health.  Implementing interactive and engaging tactics to augment this behavior is the goal of this campaign.

Renowned veterinarian, Dr. Bernadine Cruz, will contribute to the ‘No F&T’ messaging through her practice based in Laguna Woods, California, as well as through her internet based radio show ‘The Pet Doctor’ heard on  States Dr. Cruz, “I have a special interest in flea and tick care for dogs and cats.  When applied consistently, pet owners can safeguard their animals and their homes year-round; eliminating costly veterinary office visits for infestation and help protect the health of their pets and family. I am thrilled to be a part of this educational campaign.”

The ‘No F&T’ approach will target consumers with the hashtag #NOFT to create community among pet owners and establish a prevention lifestyle.  Digital ads and social media messaging, including monthly care reminders, will be communicated via Facebook starting this month.  For more information, please visit, and @HartzPets on Facebook.

My Thoughts

Every spring and summer, we struggle with fleas on our Golden Retriever.  I normally purchase the expensive prescription brands from my vet, and have paid as much as $100 for a three month supply.  These used to work, but over time, I found they are less and less effective. This summer, I was looking for a new product to try, so I was excited to get the chance to test out Hartz UltraGuardPro.

Using the UltraGuardPro is easy. The box I received contained three treatments that last for up to 30 days. Just snap off the cap and squeeze the medicine on the back of your dog's neck.   I dosed up my dog about three weeks ago with my old brand, and it didn't seen to be working at all. She had fleas and even a few ticks every time we checked. Extra bathing with flea control shampoo did nothing to help. However, only a few hours after I applied the Hartz, I groomed her and checked her over from head to toe. I didn't 't see one flea!

I've always heard that over the counter pet supplies aren't as effective as the ones you can only get at the vet, but I was excited to find that Hartz outperformed my regular brand.  In addition to knocking out fleas, Hartz also guards against ticks, and even repels mosquitoes. You get all this for a fraction of the price of the prescription brands.  Prices will vary, but you can get a three pack on Amazon for only $16 right now. Whether you have a dog or a cat, the Hartz UltraGuardPro is an affordable solution to fleas and ticks that really lives up to its claim. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to live pest free all summer long.

I haven't tried this. I don't like the topical flea and tick treatments. I use the oral prescription meds for my dog. They work perfectly and you don't have to worry about not petting your dog until it dries.

I worry about how safe any of the meds are too - for both people and dogs.
