Holiday Gift Guide - Monster 500 Vehicles & Play-sets

If there are two things that little boys love, it's cars and monsters. Monster 500 merges these two classics into a toy that sets you on a crash course for fun. My son got to test drive a few of the Monster 500 play sets and he thought they were just awesome! There are a variety of different tracks and individual race cars to choose from. Here is a little about the ones that we got to try.

Zoom Zombie

This road raging zombie might be driving a hearse, but they won't stop him from winning the race.  There is a lot of detail in each of these little cars. In this one, you can see everything from the rotten teeth to the empty eye socket. They are manually powered with wheels that glide easily along rugs as well as hard surfaces. Each Monster 500 vehicle also comes with a collectible trading card that tells you all about your character.   Zoom Zombie is pure evil on the Evilometer. He's also a diabolical genius whose biggest downfall is bad hygiene.   For even more excitement, you can enter a code online to receive a virtual monster to race! There's definitely a lot of fun packed into each of these little monsters.

Lead Foot

Lead Foot is a speed racing version of Sasquatch. Don't let all those big teeth fool you. Lead Foot rates "not that evil" on the Evilometer, which is as nice as a monster can get. He rides on a motorcycle designed to look like a wooden log. The vehicle itself is kid-powered, but batteries are included that provide lights and sounds like revving engines and monster growls.

Like his smaller counterparts, he still comes with a collectible trading card and a code to enter online so you can take part in virtual races.  This monster is not designed for play with the track sets as he is much too large, but he's tons of fun to play with all on his own.

Toxic Terror Trap Playset

The Toxic Terror Trap Playset is pretty cool! It comes with one action figure, Evil Clownevil, which certainly makes this clown hater give a little shudder. He rates pure evil on the Evilometer and his Laughing Gas Guzzler vehicle looks just as creepy as he does. He comes complete with a collectible trading card and code to access the online racing app.

The track itself is a lot of fun, but can be somewhat frustrating. It's easy to put together, with only a few pieces that snap right into place, but it does fall apart quite often. We can get the car around the ramp a few times, but before long the upper ramp collapses. However, this is easily fixed. My five-year-old can repair it herself, and helps her little brother play with it. When it works, you ride up an escalator and the car zips down the tramp, through the Toxic Monster. Sometimes you escape and sometimes you land in the jaws on the purple sea monster who rises from the slime.  Add a few AAA batteries for cool sound effects. Overall, while this set is a little on the flimsy side, my son still really enjoyed it. Just be prepared to have to put it back together over and over again.

Graveyard Gauntlet Playset

The Graveyard Guantlet Playset includes one Monster 500 Racer--Drac Attack, which is the resident vampire. He comes with the standard collectible card and a code to access the virtual racing app.  It's awesome that the set comes with one car, but you'll have to get another racer in order to truly get the most out of this set.

The Graveyard Gauntlet is super easy to assemble. One end can be attached to any table or ledge. Then it's just a few pieces that snap together to create a long slide. It took literally minutes to set it up and taking it back down is just as easy. Once it's ready to go, place your racer at the top and watch him fly down. In the center of the slide is the swinging gauntlet which may knock a racer off the track.  You can just let Drac go for the ride, but if you have two monsters, you can watch them race to the bottom. The luck of the draw will determine whether you get hit by the gauntlet. My kids really loved this set. It's a simple but fun race track that never falls apart.

If you'd like to add a few monsters to your holiday festivities, they are available now in retailers nationwide. You can also purchase them online on Amazon.
