Book Review: A Weird-Oh World: The Art of Bill Campbell

You may know Bill Campbell’s name, but chances are, you know his handiwork better, especially the Weird-Ohs models that burst on the pop culture scene in the 1960s. Enjoy looking back over the career of this colorful artist in over 700 brilliant photos and witty prose. From his early days painting model box tops for the Hawk Model Company to his invention of the iconic Weird-Ohs model kits, Bill has continued to create some of the most unique artwork the world has seen. Also discover his work for national ad campaigns, editorial cartoons, his box art, fine art, and the Weird-Ohs that never were. Now much of that work has been gathered into one volume that traces the entire arc of Bill’s career, including his connection to the Manhattan Project, an initiative that may well have saved his life. Much of the art is presented here for the very first time.

My thoughts:

My thoughts:What a great book! Brought back some childhood memories for my husband.  His father had build a couple of Bill Campbell's models with him.  My husband even has his little art work from when he was young, and a couple of the cartoon characters are among some of it.
My seven and ten year got a real kick looking through this book with their daddy.  Both of my children love art, and immediately got out their crayons, papers and pencils and started drawing some of the colorful pictures from this book.  It was very nice to see them relate to something that was so popular in the sixties.
This book is loaded with great colorful pages of Bill Campbell's art.    It is a book that you will look at several times to get through the whole thing.  It is that interesting and full of information on the art work of Bill Campbell.
I am so happy to have this book, and know it will always be in our home library.  My kids have taken it out numerous times, and have even brought it out to show their friends.
