Movie Review: 23 Blast - Vision Comes From Within

 About the film:

23 Blast is based on the amazing true story of Travis Freeman, who was a typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky.

Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the fall of 1997, in the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve. He becomes blind overnight.  Under the influence of parents who love him, a physical therapist who challenges him, a coach who inspires him, and a best friend who he cannot bear to leave behind, Travis shows us what true bravery is by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs.

We follow Travis and Jerry Baker, his closest friend, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.

My Thoughts

23 Blast is an inspirational film that will make you laugh, cry, and realize that you can overcome anything if you really set your mind to it. Based on actual events, the movie follows a teenager named Travis Freeman. He's a local football champ who seems to have it all. But one fateful day, all of that changes. What starts out as a headache turns out to be a serious sinus infection--so serious that Travis loses his sight.

At first, Travis is despondent. He doesn't want to leave his room and doesn't show up for his therapy sessions. But he has family and friends who won't let him give up. The therapist shows up at his house, and makes sure he learns how to take care of himself. His parents refuse to send him to a special school, and his best friend Jerry makes him laugh. Eventually, he returns to school, but the biggest surprise comes when his coach talks him into returning to the football field.  Travis helps lead his team to the championships and shows everyone that his disability doesn't refine him.

I watched his film with my two teens, and we all agree it was excellent. My kids enjoyed the sports scenes, and I loved the inspirational messages. There was really something for everyone, including a little romance with the girl next store. Though I've never been a sports fan myself, I found myself riveted, cheering Travis on during the big game. I especially enjoyed the unique friendship between Travis and Jerry. Though Jerry was considered a "bad boy", Travis always stuck by him, and when he lost his sight, Jerry returned the favor. One of my favorite scenes was when the pair were in the elevator singing and the middle-aged guy next to them was giving them funny looks. I also loved how at the very end of the film, they showed us clips of the real people who inspired the movie.  Seeing Travis today and learning how much more he's accomplished really gave me goosebumps.

Movies like this inspire me a lot. I often come to the stadium to support local teams. However, I have never been to a major championship, never been to a cup final.. I don't like big crowds of people.. I prefer to watch everything on TV and place bets - https://in.1xbet.com/ Usually I am very careful in betting and I don’t even know if I can call myself a gambler.
