Simply SoapBerry™ is the first to combine the naturally powerful cleaning properties of ancient Himalayan soap berries into a liquid laundry detergent in a consumer-approved pump bottle and serve it up to the mainstream through mass retail. The organic surfactant used by the people of the Himalayas by wetting dried soap berries was finally converted into a modern laundry accoutrement by Culver City-based Growing Naturals; it is slated to hit shelves at the end of 2013. The 100% allergen and chemical-free, yet powerful Simply SoapBerry is positioned to helping everyone from mothers to college students’ transition from petroleum-byproduct based national brands to an authentically natural alternative. Proceeds from the sale of Simply SoapBerry benefit the Grow Nepal Charity. The 32-fluid ounce (946 ml) Original formulation pump bottles retail for $19.49 and $19.99 for the Baby Formula, which benefits babies’ skin by replacing the enzymes with aloe.
A one quart bottle of Simply SoapBerry provides a 1-year supply of detergent, based on 2 loads per week, cleaning an unprecedented 128 loads. Use of the 10x more powerful detergent brings the cost per load of laundry to only 15 cents. It was tested as powerful at cleaning as a major chemical-based national brand but with 60-70% less product.
In many indigenous cultures, from the American Native Indians who used soap root to the Himalayans who grow soap berries in high altitudes, nature provides strong cleaning without any chemicals to cause allergic reactions to the skin or absorption to affect other organs. Other products that have been introduced using soap berries have been less in line with contemporary laundry practices or pocket-books; Simply SoapBerry married the best of nature with the most modern of technology.
“Statistics have shown that chemicals used in the home, from laundry detergent to other cleaning agents cause more pollution than being outside in a city,” said CEO Growing Naturals, David Janow. “And our home is where we have the most control over toxins.” He adds, “Our skin is covered in clothing or bed sheets almost 24/7, thus our laundry detergents are the first thing we should make certain is pristine and chemical-free.”
Simply SoapBerry laundry detergents are sulfate-free, made with organic non-GMO sustainable berries, not tested on animals, vegan, follows fair trade practices, uses no synthetic optical brighteners, has a neutral pH and does not require the use of post-wash softeners.
My Thoughts
I was so excited to be able to try out the Simply Soap Berry Detergent, which is a highly condensed liquid detergent formula made from non-GMO soap berries. But I was still a little leery. Even though I love green products, I was worried they wouldn't get my clothes clean. After all, I have four messy kids who like to make big misses. Boy, was I wrong! This detergent is amazing! Just a few squirts and my clothes looked brand new. The detergent has as light berry scent that is very pleasant, but the scent doesn't linger on your clothes. They are just naturally clean and fresh without any stinky perfumes.
Another thing I found to be incredible about this detergent is how condensed it is. The bottle is so small, it looks like its just a sample size. But don't let the size fool you. One bottle will for last for more than one hundred washes, depending on your washer and the size of your loads. And since it is made from all natural, organic ingredients, of course there is no ill effects for the environment. Even the small bottle is helping out mother earth because it creates a lot less waste than typical detergents and it can be recycled. As an added bonus, the company donates a portion of all sales to the BGP, Baby Girl Project.
