***Complimentary product received in exchange for an honest review***

From award-winning producer Timur Bekmambetov (Universal Picture’s Wanted and Fox’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), comes The Snow Queen, an animated tale that will warm the hearts of the entire family! On DVD and VOD Nov. 26 from Vertical Entertainment.
Based on the beloved fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson – author of such other memorable classics such as The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Ugly Duckling and The Princess and the PeaThe Snow Queen has grossed more than $14 million to date in worldwide box office and a sequel is already in the works, with plans for a winter 2014 release.
In a land far, far away, the wicked Snow Queen has blanketed the kingdom in ice, plotting to turn it into a frozen landscape and imprison its people in a never-ending winter sleep, with no light, joy or happiness and no free will. The only remaining obstacle to her evil plan is Vegard, a master glassmaker whose mirrors reflect not only appearances but reveal a person’s soul … So one day, the Queen’s cruel polar wind comes and takes him and his wife away forever.
But when the Snow Queen’s servant stumbles across an orphanage and a young boy named
Kai – rumored to be the glassmaker’s son and to bear his father’s powers as a wizard – the boy is abducted and held captive in the palace.

Now it is up to his sister, Gerda, to rescue him before it’s too late! The determined girl treks across the forbidding and frigid land, battling daunting obstacles and encountering new friends who help in her quest to set Kai free, defeat the Snow Queen and save the world from eternal frost.
Featuring an original soundtrack from Emmy-nominated composer Mark Willott.

My Thoughts
The Snow Queen starts right off with action. A man runs though a small village, attempting to outrun a frost that turns everything it touches to ice. Before it takes him, he manages to save his children, but the brother and sister get separated. Years later, Gerta and Kai find each other again, but the evil Snow Queen has been searching for them as well. She knows their father passed on to them the power to save their world from an endless freeze. When Kai is captured, Greta must travel to the Snow Queen's castle to set him free with only her pet weasel and a form-shifting troll she's not sure she can trust. Along the way, they meet a magical gardener, land bound pirates, and even a Indian shaman who help guide Greta on her quest.

My children and I really enjoyed this film. Its a fantasy adventure filled with action and fun characters. The little troll offers some much needed comic relief as he passes gas at awkward times and has a love-hate relationship with the weasel. Each of the characters they run across have unique personalities and quirks. In the end, Greta learns that love and acceptance can solve more problems than violence. A wonderful tale with a wonderful moral!
