The Allstate Foundation's Purple Purse Campaign #PurplePurse

Domestic violence affects one in four women in their lifetime – that’s more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and All State is working to raise awareness this year with their amazing Purple Purse Campaign.  They are handing out 1300 purple purses to their employees, insurance agents, government officials, celebrities, and even  bloggers like me. Each bag contains important information about domestic violence . But these influences are only the beginning of the chain.  The purple purse is meant to be passed on, from one person to another. Every time it's passed, All State will donate $5 to the YWCA. All you have to do is long onto their website, PurplePurse.com and enter the virtual purse code and your zip code into the map. A new donation is made every time someone checks in.  If the local YWCAs are able to pass their purses a total of 1,000 times, All State will double the donation and reward them with a $10,000 grant from The Allstate Foundation.

The Purple Purse is the Allstate Foundation’s symbol for domestic violence. It's a fun way to make a big difference! You can see where your purse has been-maybe it was even in the hands of your favorite celebrity--before it made its way to you. I can't wait to get my bag and start off the chain. I just have to decide who to pass it onto first, though we are leaning towards one of my daughter's teachers. However, All State understands the physical bags are only going to make it so far, and they want everyone to have a chance to take part in their program.  If you are not able to pass a physical purse, you can get involved by sharing virtual purses at Facebook.com/PurplePurse . The Allstate Foundation will donate up to $350,000 to YWCA for programs that support victims of domestic violence and build financial empowerment.

A majority of Americans agree that domestic violence is tough to talk about. More than one-third of Americans have never discussed the issue with family or friends and Purple Purse provides a conversation starter in addition to supporting victims.   Domestic Abuse effects millions of women every year. One in four women have been impacted and this issue has probably touched the life of someone you care about at one point or another. So do your part to spread hope by taking part in the Purple Purse Campaign. It only makes a minute, but the benefits will last a lifetime to the people it helps.
