Holiday Gift Guide - Little Tikes™ I Am An Artist Station Review

My children all love to draw and you can often find them with crayons or markers in hand. For the little artist in your life, Little Tikes has the perfect gift this holiday season. The I’m an Artist Station™ is a spinning creation station featuring tons of space for fun and storage. My family was lucky enough to receive a one of the artist stations to review and my kids have been having a great time testing it out.

First, I'll talk a little bit about assembly. I hate toys that are complicated or come with a hundreds small pieces. The artist station offered a super quick assembly and I didn't even need to ask my husband to help me out. There were no tools required. Every piece pops right into place. Once the station is assembled, there are several features my kids enjoyed.  First there are several compartments for storing all your favorite art supplies. The green extension that resembles a palm tree has little clips to hang paintings to dry or just to display finished masterpieces. There is even a little stool to sit on and the set comes with several bottles of paint that wash out easily from clothes should any accidents occur.

Of course, the main feature of the station is the spinning top. This enables children to make a sort of tie-dye style artwork by squeezing the paint onto paper as it spins. My younger children (2 and 3) had a little trouble with this. They either squirted too much or not enough paint and it was very messy even with the splash guard. Only with a lot of help were they able to get this aspect of the toy to work correctly, but it all fairness, this will probably vary greatly from child to child and kids who are a little older should have a much easier time. Personally, we prefer using the station as a regular desk. The lighted base works great for illuminating their pictures as they draw and they can even pick up the top of the desk to create a portable art station that can be used anywhere.

All in all, we were pleased with the Artist Station, despite our difficulties with the spinning part. Another thing to take into consideration is that the desk is bulky and takes up a lot of space, so make sure you have the space if you're considering this item. The height of the desk and stool should work perfectly for average size children up to around six years old.
