Vexed Series 2 DVD Review

Moonlighting 2.0, but with a much sexier male lead...witty and irreverent British hit” (Advocate) – Toby Stephens (Jane Eyre, Die Another Day, and the lead in Michael Bay’s upcoming STARZ series Black Sails) and Miranda Raison (MI-5, My Week with Marilyn, Sugartown) star in charming British cop drama. The series features sharp scripts, strong performances, and an enjoyable mix of comedy and crime solving with a twist. As partners on the London police force, the two detectives bicker and banter as they learn to work together, despite their very different styles. Broadcast on BBC Two in 2012, Series 2 has not aired in the U.S. and is available to U.S. audiences for the first time with this DVD release (6 episodes).

London cop Jack Armstrong (Toby Stephens, Jane Eyre, Die Another Day) has been assigned a new partner, and he's not happy about it. Worried that "George" will cramp his freewheeling style and tell him how to do his job, Jack is shocked to meet bright, beautiful DI Georgina Dixon (Miranda Raison, MI-5) instead. The two detectives couldn't be more different. He's a slacker; she's a fast-tracker. He's cocky, she's cool. He's slovenly, sexist, and set in his ways. She's smart, self-reliant, and serious about her career. In spite of themselves, they learn to work together, solving a murder at a car dealership and the gruesome death of a headmaster at an exclusive school, among other cases. Stephens and Raison "fairly crackle" (The Independent, U.K.) chemistry in this British buddy cop drama with a twist.

Our Thoughts

I have always been a fan of crime television. There is something about a good murder mystery that really gets your adrenaline pumping. When the show in question also features a strong female lead, its even better.  DI Georgia Dixon and her partner DI Jack Armstrong provide almost as much humor as they do suspense in this fun show and they bumble through crime scenes and sometimes only solve them thanks to luck being on their side.  The two of them couldn't be more different, and yet they somehow make it work. You'll laugh, you'll bite your nails, and you will relate to this two very human characters. With the amazing Vexed Series Two on DVD, you will be getting 365 minutes of back to back action that will leave you at the edge of your seat. Just sit back and enjoy British drama at its best. I had never seen Vexed before getting this DVD set to review, but let me tell you, once I got it I was so enthralled I watched the complete set in only a few days.
