Green Mamas, Green Kids

***This is a sponsored post***

Somebody recently asked if raising a child as a vegetarian or vegan is “fair.” This sure did get people mad! They didn’t seem to get that every aspect of parenting (from discipline methods to religious practices) is obviously imposed on kids by their parents.

As moms, our main concerns are the health and happiness of our children -- lifestyle labels don’t tend to matter to most of us. It’s the outcome that justifies whatever methods we use.

Raising a child in a cruelty-free lifestyle, whether it’s choosing to eat meat less frequently or not at all, or buying vegan shoes instead of leather, is simply a lesson in kindness. You are teaching by example that you can eat and you can dress without killing animals. Kindness to animals has been proven to correlate with kindness to human beings. In other words, raising a vegan bully would be really hard.

When mom-preneur Sarit Shmulevitz created her cruelty-free marketplace, ForAnima.com, her intent was to showcase the wide array of cruelty-free products that exist, making it easier for people who might want to consider cruelty-free alternatives to everyday products they currently use.

Buying vegan beauty products, pet food and even toys that are not tested on animals and are cruelty-free can never be wrong -- and of course the environment would benefit mightily (and the animals would be happy). Even if your child ultimately chooses not to follow a vegan lifestyle, the very fact that she or he has that choice and knows that the alternative does exist is good parenting. Fair enough?
