K'NEX Review & Giveaway @KNEX

***Complimentary product received in exchange for an honest review***

Summer break is only a few weeks away, and while we'll be spending plenty of time at the beach, we also need something to keep the kids occupied on rainy days. I always look for toys that encourage my children to use their minds and their creativity.   One great way to do this is with the building play sets from  K'NEX . They have a wide range of sets to choose from that appeal to both boys and girls of all ages.We were lucky enough to several of KNEX's newest play sets to test out.

K’NEX Building Sets: Intro Assortment #17030

Choose from one of three sets; the classically designed plane, helicopter with working propeller, or fire truck with rotating wheels. Collect and build all three to create a space shuttle with cargo doors that open and close! Each set contains 60+ classic, made in the USA K’NEX rods and connectors and full color instructions and offer great building at a great price. Suggested retail price is $5.99. Ages 5+. Available now on knex.com, Amazon.com and at toy retailers nationwide.  http://www.knex.com/Building-Sets/classics_intro.php

Our Thoughts

From this collection we received both the plane and the truck building sets. These  two each come with only 67 pieces so they are easy to assemble but still lots of fun. They each have wheels that really work so kids can play and push them once they are completed. My son wants to join the Air Force when he grows up, so he especially enjoyed flying his plane around the house. These ones are perfect for kids that are a little younger, but too young for the Sesame Street KNEX.

K’NEX Building Sets: Robo-Creatures Assortment #13200
Collect & build all three motorized robots in this assortment. Choose from Robo-Sting, Robo-Smash, or Robo-Strike. Each set boasts over 150 made in the USA K’NEX bricks, rods & connectors. Each robot features a motor that allows for unique and exciting mechanical movement! Collect & combine all three to create the ultimate robotic creature. Suggested retail price is $15.99. Ages 7+.  Available now on knex.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, Amazon.com and at toy retailers nationwide. http://www.knex.com/Building-Sets/robo_creatures.php

My Thoughts

These guys are  a little bit harder to assemble, but well worth the effort. My son did most of the work on his own, but he needed a little help from his step-dad to get the job done. The pieces snap together easily and are attached to a motorized base that allows them to move independently once they're constructed. It is so cool to watch these little guys scooting across the table. We got three different building sets and the kids loved them all. The one my son liked the best  was Robo-Strike because it resembles a scorpion with a long pointy tail. But we also got Robo-Smash and Robo-Sting and they were just as awesome.

K’NEXmen Mystery Figures 2 pack #11850
Recent winner of the 2013 Tillywig Best Creative Fun Award, the K’NEXmen Mystery Figure packs feature 16 different figures in this first series.  Each set includes not one, but two, cool K’NEXmen figures!  Young building fans will love collecting and building the figures across many themes including pirates, astronauts, pilots, race car drivers, zombies and more. Some figures are more elusive than others, so you never know who you might get!  Compatible with all leading building sets. Suggested retail price $2.99. Ages 5+. The award-winning 2 K’NEXmen building sets are available on knex.com, Amazon.com and at toy retailers nationwide. http://www.knex.com/Shop/product.php?productid=17633

My Thoughts

Finally, we also got a few packages of K'NEX men. Each package comes with two different action figures that are selected at random. Luckily enough, we got two with the same characters, the ninja and the race car driver, so there was no arguing about who got which one. Each figure has movable arms and legs. They are the perfect companions to any of the building sets.
