Five Tips For Choosing And Applying Eye Shadow

Makeup should enhance, not distract from, your overall beauty.  When applied appropriately using complementary colors, makeup can make you look and feel more beautiful, confident, and polished.  On the other hand, when too much or too little of the wrong colors are used, you can look tacky, washed-out, or even much older than you really are.  This is particularly true when applying eye make-up.  Therefore, it is important that you understand a few tips on how to choose and apply eye shadow to enhance your natural beauty and style.

 1- Consider Your Eye Color
Many beauty experts suggest that you choose an eye shadow color that is complementary to your eye color.  For example, if you have blue eyes, consider using warm browns to highlight the blue in your eyes.  Green eyes can look beautiful with a touch of burgundy.  Browns eyes, however, look great in just about any color.  To make brown eyes truly stand out for special occasions, try a touch of silver.

2- Consider Your Skin Tone
It is also important to consider your skin tone when choosing an eye shadow color.  The lighter your skin, the more careful you need to be about how dark you apply your makeup.  Bright eyeshadow may look stunning on someone with dark skin but can make a fair skinned woman look painted.   Furthermore, consider whether your skin has warm or cool undertones and look for eye shadow colors that blend accordingly.

3- Keep it Even
Eye shadow also needs to be applied evenly so that both eyes have the same amount of color on them.  Too much color on one side can make you look sloppy or uneven.  The secret is to make sure that your face is not turned and partially shadowed while you are applying your makeup.   You should face your mirror and the light head on to ensure even coverage

4- Create Definition
Eye shadow must also be applied in steps.  A light, highlight shade should first be applied to the top of the eye lid near the brow line.  A medium, taupe shadow can then be brought across the lid.  A quick finish with a dark line close to the eyelashes and mascara can complete the look.

5-Keep it Light
The dark, smoky eyes that seem to grace the cover of every fashion magazine may look beautiful and sexy in a photograph but rarely look good in real life.  Too much makeup can make a woman look like a clown, not a supermodel.  Remember that makeup is best used to highlight your natural beauty not make you look like another person.  Start by applying very light makeup and building it up in layers.  It may be possible to add a little more makeup for an evening look, but makeup for everyday should be light and natural.

Keep these tips in mind when applying your eye shadow to create a more beautiful you.  While it may be difficult to get the coloring and techniques right the first time, with practice and patience applying makeup can become easy.  As you learn to use makeup to enhance your natural beauty you can start each day feeling a little more confident about your appearance and style.
