Our thoughts:
I love freeze dried fruit so I was really excited
to try Crispy Green! They sent me the full line of Crispy Fruit freeze-dried
fruit snacks: the new Tangerine, Crispy Apples, Crispy Asian Pears, Crispy
Bananas, Crispy Cantaloupe, Crispy Mangoes and Crispy Pineapples. And OMG . . .
are they ever good! Sigh . . . yes, yes I did eat one of each kind in one day .
. . wait, make that two of some of them. Glutton, I am I know. I don’t know
that I can even pick a favorite– maybe the apples, or the pears, or the
pineapple . . . no wait, the tangerine! The tangerine really surprised me – at
first glance they don’t even really look freeze-dried, I expected them to be
more . . . “dehydrated” looking but they look just like a fresh slice! They are
so light and crunchy (andtasty!!) it can be hard not to eat a ton of them in
one sitting! Which, personally I want to be careful about – I’ve noticed now
that we eat Paleo, eating too much freeze-dried fruit can add to my waistline.
What I really like about these besides the fact
that they are all fruit, is they are a perfect snack size. When my
special-dietary-needs son reaches school age, he’s going to need portable
snacks that are safe for him to eat and these will do very nicely. He’s a fruit
fanatic too!
It was neat to go on their website and read about
the actual freeze-drying process. I have a dislike for most shelf-stable
processed foods because of the preservatives added; but these do not need a
preservative - with the process, no
microorganisms can survive and freeze-dried fruit can be kept for years with no noticeable change
in taste and other qualities once it's sealed in a moisture-free, UV-protected
package. With that in mind, these would make a great
survival food too. Thumbs up from me – highly recommended!
