"WILFRED" Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD

Synopsis

You'll sit up and beg for more of Wilfred, the most hilarious and daringly original new comedy on TV.

Elijah Wood stars as Ryan, a down-on-his-luck lawyer who forms a unique friendship with his sexy neighbor's pet pooch "Wilfred." Everyone else sees a dog, but Ryan sees a bong-ripping, beer-chugging, foul-mouthed Australian bloke in a furry suit (played by the outrageously funny Jason Gann.) By unleashing the surly, sweet and always adventurous Wilfred, Ryan may just learn to stand on his own hind legs and embrace the insanity of real life.

Our Thoughts

I thought this show looked a little odd, but I love Elijah Wood, so I wanted to give it a chance. I am so glad that I did. This series is a hilarious look inside the mind of a slightly delusional and sometimes suicidal man. He envisions his neighbor's dog as a walking, talking almost human who just happens to be a stoner. They get into some pretty crazy conversations they lead to side splitting laughs.  It sounds like it would be silly and stupid, but somehow the excellent cast makes it work. The fact that its unconventional makes it original and unique. At the toughest times in his life, Wilfred gives him advice that might seem crass, but for the most past it all works out perfectly.  Another unique aspect of the show is that each of the first thirteen episodes center around one specific emotion like anger, trust, fear etc. You just never know how this pair will handle it. If you are looking for a show that is quirky and original, this is the perfect choice. I know I've never seen anything like it before, but for better or worse, I'm hooked on it now!

Great review! I loved watching Season One when it first aired. Like you I thought it looked weird, but figured I would at least give it a chance, and it quickly became my favorite show of the year. I know the season one set is a little light on extras, but I know that if you go to dishonline.com, even without being a customer, you can check out some of the extra stuff they have for Wilfred, some behind the scenes stuff that isn’t on the DVD’s. I was on my lunch break here at Dish and pulled the site up with my iPad to re-watch last week’s episode, and got lost watching the extras instead.
