This weekend, my family and I celebrated the release of the Mirror Mirror DVD/Blu-ray combo with a fun spa party! My daughter invited over some of her friends and we had a mother-daughter day to remember. Before I tell you about the party, here is a little info on the movie.
Directed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem Singh (Immortals), MIRROR MIRROR is
a visually-spectacular, fresh and funny retelling of the classic Snow
White legend. This family comedy features a star-studded cast including
Academy Award®-winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen, breakout star
Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as
the Prince, and Golden Globe® nominee Nathan Lane as the hapless
bungling servant to the Queen. The film also stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as the King and Mare Winningham (Brothers) as Baker Margaret and showcases the stunning costumes from Academy Award®-winning designer Eiko Ishioka (Dracula).
The Blu-ray includes sparkling extras including a behind-the-scenes featurette, a toe-tapping dance-along to the reworked Nina Hart song “I Believe in Love” performed by the film’s Collins that plays over the end credits, interactive digital storybook, deleted scenes and much more.
MIRROR MIRROR tells the story of Snow White (Collins), a princess in exile and the evil Queen (Roberts) who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom. Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over. The film is produced by Bernie Goldmann (300), Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour franchise). MIRROR MIRROR’S screen story was written by Melisa Wallack, and the screenplay was written by Marc Klein and Jason Keller.
MIRROR MIRROR was theatrically released by Relativity Media and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD June 26 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Now, let me tell you about the party. First off, we received tons of cool party favors including Mirror Mirror branded files, book marks and nail brushes, all in a cool water bottle. I handed these out to our guests as soon as they arrived. We had a few snacks ready, but girls wanted to get right to their make overs. So they unloaded the nail polishes and lotions I was able to buy at Walmart courtesy of Fox and started on a full spa treatment. It wasn't quite as intense as the beauty regimen of the wicked queen in Mirror Mirror. (If you haven't seen the film yet, hers involved scorpions, maggots, and bird poop), but the girls still had lots of fun painting each others nails.
Once that was done, and their nails were dry, they enjoyed some soda and popcorn. Then we all did the activity sheets. It was tons for fun for both the girls and the moms (even though the moms were a little camera shy-LOL) But the highlight of the afternoon was actually getting to see Mirror Mirror for the first time. This is one awesome movie! Its always fun to see new takes on a classic and this version of Snow White is one of my favorites. Snow is definitely not a pathetic little damsel waiting to get saved. In fact, she kicks the prince's butt a few times before the sparks start flying. The dwarfs are pretty original too. They have real personalities and can totally kick butt. They teach Snow White how to fight and are sort of like a troop of mini Robin Hoods who steal from the rich and eventually give it to the poor. But by far, the evil queen steals the show. Julia Roberts was amazing in this role. I never thought she could be so mean, but she does a convincing job of being wicked. Yet, she she still looks stunning in all the elaborate costumes. And did I mention the handsome prince who runs around shirtless half the time? The girls told me his teeth sparkled a few times, but I was too busy looking at that six pack! Th ending was a total shocker and unlike any version of Snow White I have seen before. I love how Fox took this classic and gave it an original spin. All the tweens and moms at our spa party all agreed that this movie is a must watch and sure to become one of Fox's classic films.
