Synopsis
From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"--a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Our Thoughts
I have long been a fan of science fiction, and its a love that I have passed onto my children. We watch pretty much every sci-fi flick that comes out, and many of them have been a disappointment. Most times, movie theatrics fail to live up to the expectations we set with our imaginations. Luckily, this wasn't the case with John Carter. Fantastic computer graphics and superb acting combine to make this film a realistic fantasy wrought with adventure. Its starts out with John Carter fighting in the Civil War. He stumbles upon a cave that leads him to another world,which he eventually discovers is Mars. On this planet, he is able to do things that the other occupants cannot. He has super strength and can leap high mountains. He's almost like the super hero of mars. He starts out a captive of alien beings who call him "Virginia" but eventually locates other humans and help take up their cause. The movie leads you through his adventures in war, love, and mythical intrigue that will leave you glued to your seat and longing for more. It was a five star movie all around and one that I know will become a favorite for family movie night.
