Our Thoughts:This is a movie about sexual addiction. Its graphic and sometimes disturbing (I mean that in a good way), and its definitely a film for after the kids are in bed. That being said, Shame is an excellent and realistic film detailing the life of a man who can't control his sexual urges. Brandon Sullivan's (Michael Fassbender) whole life is shadowed by the shame of his addiction. He constantly needs to satisfy his urges, from watching porn on his office laptop to turning to a man in a effort to quench the thirst that is never sated. When the possibility of a real relationship comes up, his guilt over how he lives his life holds his back from a sexual encounter that might actually have some meaning.
In addition to dealing with his own addiction, Brandon must also cope with his younger sister, who throws herself at his married boss, and has attempted suicide on more than one occasion. The movie hints, but never goes into detail about what happened in their childhood to cause their adult issues, leaving it up to the imagination of the viewers. I really enjoyed this film. It was different, and didn't let moral issues hold it back telling the story that needed to be told. The only part of this movie I had trouble sitting through, was the scene where Sissy (Brandon's Sister) sang in the bar. She didn't sing very well, and they showed the whole song, when just a few lines would have gotten the point across. Aside from that, its an excellent film, and I would definitely recommend it to adults 18 and older.
You can order your copy of Shame on Amazon for the low price of only $29.99 for the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo.
