Based on actual events, The Fields follows a young boy named Steven during the summer of 1973. Steven (Ormond) is sent to live in the Pennsylvania countryside with his grandparents while his mother (Reid) and father (Faust Checho) work through their marital troubles. Though his grandmother (Leachman) and grandfather (Bev Appleton) are happy to host him, they warn Steven not to enter the cornfields next to their house.

Meanwhile, Steven hears news of the notorious Manson Family and their gruesome killing spree. He develops a morbid fascination with the murderous cult and at the same time can't help but be drawn into the cornfields, where he makes a terrible discovery. Though Steven's family tries to protect him, whatever's lurking in the fields is about to make their lives a living nightmare.

The DVD and Blu-Ray is loaded with special features including a making-of documentary, behind-the-scenes footage, hilarious Leachman outtakes, interviews with the real people involved and clips from the world premiere.

Our Thoughts: This movie freaked me out. It really did.  I write scary stories myself, and honestly, that doesn't happen very often.  What makes this movie scary isn't a lot of gore or dismembered bodies. Its scary because it could actually happen.  Its scary because it did actually happen.  Back in the 1976, a little boy finds a body in a corn field near his grandparent's house, and afterwards, all the people around him begin to seem like they are out to get him.  The hippies camping out in a deserted building, the strange guy that works at the diary--they all have something to hide.  At first no one takes  him seriously. They think he's just upset because his parents are having marital problems. But soon, his grandparents realize that its not just his imagination. Their dogs go missing, there windows are broken, and things are tossed out of the corn fields like magic.  It all adds up to a really creepy movie, and they do it without any of the special effects or high budgets of Hollywood. Definitely a film I would recommend to anyone who likes a good suspense.

All the members of the cast gave spectacular performances, but there a few that deserve a special mention. Joshua Ormond is the child star of this film, and its his debut movie. The array of emotions he displays will leave you breathless.  Many times, you can feel his fear or confusion, just by his expressions. This is never an easy task, but for a child, its phenomenal. This little boy is a rising star! I know someday I'll be watching him get an Oscar, and I'll tell my kids, "I saw him in his very first film festival movie!".

One last person I have to mention is Cloris Leachman. She plays Steven's grandmother Gladys. She is hilarious and so realistic in the role of a 70's housewife. She acts just like my own grandmother when I was a kid.  Her role is realistic both in her personality and her reactions to certain things, like the interracial relationship of her sister which wasn't as acceptable back then.  I especially love her lines. She is always throwing casual curses into the conversation and tells Steven that if he goes into the cornfields, he's going to come back "all dead, and bloated and smelly, and it will be just horrible."  Or something along those lines.

The Fields is a unique and original film that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This movie  will be available starting April 24th. To get a copy for yourself, you can order one on Amazon for only $19.99 for the DVD or $23.99 for the Blu-ray.
