Last summer, after months of begging, I finally gave in and let my kids each get a hermit crab. They didn't even make it through the fall. We now have two very tiny little grave markers in our back yard. This year, as soon as the boardwalk opened, they started asking for hermit crabs again. I didn't give in this time until I heard about Xia-Xia. These little crabs don't require any food, water, or cage cleaning, and they are a lot more fun than the real thing.
I was lucky enough to be selected to host a Xia-Xia in home party. We received a selection of brightly colored hermit crabs as well as alternate shells and habitats. We invited over a few of our friends and the party began. Setting up the Rio de Trio Village and Copacabana Play Set only took a few minutes. There is also the Confetti Cottage which is just like a real hermit crab cage. Then each child was able to pick one crab and one extra shell. The crabs come in purple, pink, blue, and orange. When you turn them on, they crawl and scatter around just like real crabs. Inside the shell, there are special little collectible surprises. The Xia-Xia comes with one and the extra shells come with two each and they are all different. Some of the characters we got were a rubber ducky, Eskimo, car, pickle, computer, etc. You can store the pieces inside the shell or they can ride on top of the crab.
All of the kids loved playing with the Xia-Xia Hermit Crabs. They played for hours with their crabs but also enjoyed a few other fun activities like the Xia-Xia Shuffle and we even drew some designs for new shells. We also sat down to some fun themed snacks like Carnivale Cookies and Trinidad's Colorful Fruit Salad. The general consensus from both the children and the adults is that the Xia-Xia party was a big success and these little guys (and girls) are going to be the next big thing.
