The Far Pavilions DVD Review

The Fair Pavailions is a historical film at its best. It has all the qualities I look for in a movie--romance, intrigue, and adventure. The cast gives a stellar performance and wisks you away to the past with their breathtaking passion. The wardrobes and sets really make you feel like you have stepped back in time into exotic India. This is a movie that all history lovers are going to want to see for his historical accuracy as well as its tale of timeless romance. Here is a little more info about this mini series:

A classic tale of forbidden love, set against the spectacular sweep of battle, treachery, and intrigue in British India, The Far Pavilions arrives on DVD from Acorn Media on June 28, 2011. Broadcast on HBO in 1984 and based on M.M. Kaye’s bestselling novel, this dazzling adaptation captured the imaginations of critics and viewers alike with its evocative intrigue and lavish production values. The pitch-perfect production includes performances by Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire), Amy Irving (Crossing Delancy), Omar Sharif (Lawrence of Arabia), Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings), Rupert Everett (The Importance of Being Earnest), and John Gielgud (Ghandi). Acorn Media previously released The Far Pavilions on DVD in 2000, but this new edition includes subtitles and all-new transfer for improved picture quality.

Born to British parents but raised as Indian, Ashton Pelham-Martyn (Ben Cross) returns to India as a young military officer, where he fights both local unrest and the cultural prejudices of society. Struggling to reconcile his place in two different worlds, he finds happiness with his childhood sweetheart, Indian princess Anjuli (Amy Irving)—but she is promised to marry another man. From the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas to the fabled palaces of Bhithor, M.M. Kaye’s evocative novel is brought to stunning life.
