Holiday Gift Guide - My BFF (Best Fish Friend) Review

There are a few new additions to the New Age Mama household! This week we received the My BFF (Best Fish Friend) kit and already we are the proud owners of at least four very tiny little fishes.

I had told my kids that the BFF Kit would be coming and they were so excited. They ran in from school everyday and asked if the mail had arrived. We had a little goldfish a few years ago that they both loved, but he went to fishie heaven--on my daughter's birthday no less! But they were ready to get a new fish and this seemed like the perfect way.  The BFF kit is not like going to the pet store. You actually get to raise your fish from tiny embryos until they reach maturity. You might think this would be difficult, but its actually pretty easy.  The kit comes with almost everything you need including a miracle fish pouch, one month supply of food, magnifying glass, food siphon, manual, and measuring spoon. The instructions are easy to follow and kids can do most of it on their own. But since you are dealing with living creatures, they should definitely be supervised.

To start, you will need to hatch the brine shrimp food.  This is done by placing it in water with a little salt, and letting them hatch.  You will need to make sure they are hatched before you bring your baby fish to life. Once the food is ready, you take the miracle pouch and submerge it in fresh water. It might take a few days, but soon you will see some very new little fish form right before your eyes. Our baby fish were swimming around about twelve hours after we got started. Its been three days now and I know we have at least four. But they are so tiny its hard to say for sure. There may be more hiding in the bottom of the glass. To learn more about how to get started, check out this video.

Watching our little fish is amazing, and my kids are so thrilled with the BFF Kit. I wish I could take some pictures, but at this point the babies are just way to tiny for me to pick up with my camera. Once they grow, I will take some pictures so you can see the final result. But I didn't want to wait that long to tell you about My BFF because with the holidays coming, this is a stocking stuffer that everyone with grade school children is going to want to have.  The kit is available for only $19.99. Its a great price for an exciting science kit. The whole family will want to get involved and children will learn a lot about life and responsibility as they watch the babies grow. But remember that you are dealing with real fish, so don't take on this responsibility unless your sure you will be able to take care of them properly.

All in all, I was very impressed with the My BFF, and I highly recommend it as a gift. I also think it would be great for teachers to use as a learning tool in classrooms. So check out My BFF today and order now so you will be sure to receive it before the holidays!
