Its not always easy being a green mama when so many of the toys out there are made with materials that are sometimes toxic and almost always bad for the enviroment. Well, I came across a really cool little playhouse that I think is perfect for younger children. Its called This Little Piggy's House, and it not only enviromentally friendly but wallet friendly as well.
This Little Piggy's House is a cardboard playhouse. I love this idea for several reasons. First of all, I've had those little plastic playhouses before. They never last for more than a year or two before the kids outgrow them. Then you have a pretty large piece of garbage that is going to sit in a landfill somewhere. Even if you pass it down to another child or a friend, eventually that is where it will wind up. But with the carboard playhouse, it is easy to recycle once your child has outgrown it. Plus its already made with recycled paper so you are already helping to reduce waste. Another thing that makes this item unique is that your child can decorate it themselves. This makes for a fun filled art project that will last for days. Then there is the price. With prices as low as $59, you are saving a bundle over the plastic playhouses that can run several hundred dollars. And one last fact that makes this a New Age Mama pop pick, is the fact that they donate 5% of their profits to children in need.
When our Little Piggy House arrived, my husband looked at it and said it was going to last about five minutes. But he was so wrong. Its actually really sturdy and very easy to assemble. My 10 year old daughter put it together on her own. Then my two older children set to the task of decorating it. They spent three days coloring and picking out stickers to adorn their creation. They are very pround of the end result. Its going to be perfect for Willow when she starts crawling and Gabby and Frankie worked hard to make it special for her. Overall, I think the This Little Piggy's House would make a wonderful gift for children 5 and under that encourages creativity. It also makes a nice cat hang out :-)
