Back
to school season is upon us, and in recognizing the importance of
keeping students healthy in the classroom, recently appointed
National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) President, Otha Thornton,
wants to excite students about returning to school and educate on
hygiene practices in a new, stimulating approach.
The
PTA and National Education Association (NEA), in collaboration with the
CDC, have partnered to launch a program that reinforces
the practice of healthy habits in helping to keep students well and
thriving – the
Healthy Habits Program.
In fact, they will kick off the first-ever Healthy Habits Week on
September 23 with a large traveling, interactive science exhibit on
wheels traveling to
schools across the country, and have recently released a mobile application to challenge students’ knowledge of healthy hygiene practices.
As you may know, every year,
the common cold results in 22 million lost days of school for students.
That’s millions of days of lost learning, and millions of opportunities
for students to fall behind. Yet, research shows that teaching good
hygiene habits, such as hand washing,
can help eliminate lost school days by 26 percent. Following one
of the worst cold & flu seasons in more than a decade, the Healthy
Habits Program aims to reduce student absenteeism.
The
program focuses on three key areas of healthy habits: hand/surface
hygiene, nutrition and physical activity. Teachers and parents
may access downloadable materials online to help educate students/families about healthy habits, including: ready-to-use, standardized lesson plans, a year-long
activity calendar for parents, a classroom supply list, tips on helping families and classrooms to stay and healthy, and more.
Lysol products are nothing new to me. I use them pretty much every day of the year. But with the kids going back to school, I'm even more alert about germs. I don't want my older kids tracking home sicknesses the little ones are going to catch. The perfect way to avoid that is with the Lysol Antibacterial Hand Wash. It creates a foam kids love, comes in fun scents like vanilla orchid so your hands smell great, and it kills 99.9% of germs. My kids barely have time to drop off their book bags before I'm sending them in to wash their hands when they arrive home from school.
Another handy Lysol product are the Toilet and Bathroom Wipes. In a house with six people and one bathroom, cleaning that area once a week just isn't enough. I need to be in there everyday, but some days there just isn't time to break out all the cleaning tools. The wipes make in possible to clean the most germ infested areas without a lot of hassle. Just pull one out, wipes things down, and toss the germs away.
Last but not least, we also have to worry about germs when we're on the go. Ladies, we've all been there--the moment when we just can't hold it anymore so we have to squat and hope it doesn't run down our legs. Now Lysol has a portable disinfectant spray that you can toss right into your handbag. You can spray it in public bathrooms, on shopping cart handles, and pretty much anything else that might be festering germ pool. I really wanted to shove one in my kid's schoolbags, but they aren't allowed to carry them....but at least I know they are protected everywhere else we go, and its all thanks to Lysol and their fantastic germ killing power.
