Shop Local! Neighborhood Toy Store Day is Saturday November 10th!

Saturday, November 10th is Neighborhood Toy Store Day and YourNeighborhoodToyStore.org is ready to celebrate! The point of this event is to encourage people to shop at your local toys stores. In a world where technology seems to have taken control, its important to remember the advantages of shopping local. First and foremost, supporting local stores benefits the whole community's economy, but there are plenty of other advantages. Its nice to go into a store and be able to look at the selection and take your time choosing just the right product. This is especially true with kids toys. You want to make sure you're getting a safe, quality product, and you can't always tell when you're shopping online.  The toys at these local shops aren't going to cheap junk that breaks after just a few months. These are the toys that will get passed down to your grandchildren because of the superior quality. Yet another fun bonus is that most of these stores will have activities such as story telling and puppet shows provided for free to their patrons.

As part of this promotion, I was sent two toys to give am example of the quality of the products you can find at your local toy stores. I donated these items to the victims of Hurricane Sandy, but even without opening the packages, I was able to see just how wonderful these toys are. The first item we received was the Fat Brain Co Tobbles Stacking Toy. This is a unique version of a baby stacker. The colorful pieces will get any baby's attention and in addition to stacking, it wobbles, tilts, and spins without falling down! This fun toy is designed for infants six months of age or older.

The second toy we received is the the Think Fun Roll & Play which is for 18 months and older. This toy is like your child's first game. It comes with cards that teach about colors, actions, counting, emotions, and more. You just roll the cube and pick the card that coordinates with the color they rolled. There are no winners or losers, but the game will teach the basics of play without any frustrations.

To help make it easier for you to shop local, Your Neighborhood Toy Store has a created a website to lead you in the right direction. Just enter in you zip code, and you will be give a list of stores within driving distance of your home. To keep up with exciting events across the county, be sure to follow them on face book or twitter.   Check it out and be sure to visit your local toy store on November 10th to celebrate Neighborhood Toy Store Day!
