For months, the only thing my son has talked about is getting a remote control helicopter. I'll admit that the idea made me a little nervous. Even tiny little metal helicopters can do some serious damage if he tried to use it in  the house or crash landed on someone's head.  But my husband, who is a kid himself at heart, agreed to supervise any flying activities. So I relented. I then had to search for the perfect helicopter. They come in all different sizes and shapes, and prices can range anywhere from $25 to $2500 and more. After doing a little research, I decided that the Litehawk was the best bang for your buck. With prices starting at just $49.95, they are affordable but still a high quality toy. They are also compact and with a little practice, they are easy to control.

We were lucky enough to receive two of the Likehawk Remote Control Helicopters to review, and they have been a great way for my son and his stepfather to spend some quality time together.  They have been having a ball with them since they arrived.  My husband read through the directions and watched some of the videos on the Likehawk website. The videos give you step by step instructions on how to get your helicopter in the air.  Even with the help, it was a little tricky at first. As soon as you touch the controller, that helicopter is up, up and away! It flies as high as 50 feet and goes as fast as lightning! It was exciting, but also a little frustrating for my nine year old the first few times he tried it. And for my husband who had to climb up on the roof three times in a row to get it down-LOL:)   Then we had the brilliant idea of heading down to the park. There is a baseball field there that is wide and open with no trees or houses to crash into. There they were both able to master the controls and become excerpt flyers in just a few hours of practice. Now they can even fly them in the yard with minimal mishaps.



There are lots of features that I love about the Likehawk helicopters. They are small, about the size of your hand. This is great because they won't take up a lot of space, and because they are lite weight, it is easier to fly them.  As small as they are, they are also incredibly sturdy. My family has crash landed at least one hundred times with no damage.  But just in case, it comes with several replacement parts that are easy to repair including wings and tails.  If you have more than one helicopter, there are up to three channels, so that each helicopter can fly without interference.  While it was challenging, my son eventually mastered it. Its perfect for grade school children, but can still be enjoyed by adults. Another new feature that makes this helicopter a great choice, is that it can be charged right on your computer using a USB cord that be purchased for a small additional fee. Its definitely worth the extra expense when you think how much you can save on batteries.

In addition to the original Likehawk, the company also offers a Likehawk Pro and Likehawk XL. The Pro is designed for more experienced flyers and the XL is a larger version. For my family, the original was the best option, but if you are thinking about making a purchase, you should do your research and see which one will best meet your personal needs. If you are thinking about getting a remote control helicopter this holiday season, the Litehawk is, in my opinion, the best quality for the best price. And of course, its a whole lot of fun!
