Discovery Bay Games Spooky Tales Review & Giveaway

My kids take after their mom when it comes to imagination. They are already writing stories and I can see them moving on to novels by the time they are in high school, just like I did. I love to encourage this type of creative activity. We also love our family game night.  And now, thanks to Discovery Bay Games and their exciting Spooky Tales Board Game, we can combine two of our favorite activities into one.

Spooky Tales is a unique game that not only teaches kids to use their imagination but also encourages them to practice their reading.  It comes with several stacks of playing cards. The cards will provide you with the beginning and ending to your scary story. Then you have tons other cards with words, actions, adjectives and more. Some of them involve things like "mutant zombies" and some could be something simple like "little sister". The trick is to take those words and use them to continue the story with no break in the storyline. The game also comes with tokens that you can use to "steal" someones turn if they can't think of a good line or get stuck. Whoever uses up all their cards first, including their ending card will win the round.

My two older children have been playing this game almost every night since it arrived, even when I can't play with them. I have been amazed at the creative, spooky, and sometimes hilarious scenarios they have come up with. While they have gotten stuck on a few of the words, once I read it to them once they remember it. So in addition to providing a good time, this game is also enhancing their vocabulary.  The game also comes with a cool flashlight that not only lights up but provides sound effects like screams and howls, which the kids and even the baby love playing with even when they aren't playing the game.
