K'Nex Review & Lincoln Log Giveaway @KNEX

Summer us in full swing and while we'll be spending plenty of time at the beach, we also need something to keep the kids occupied on rainy days. I always look for toys that encourage my children to use their minds and their creativity.   One great way to do this is with the building play sets from  K'NEX . They have a wide range of sets to choose from that appeal to both boys and girls of all ages.We were lucky enough to several of KNEX's newest play sets to test out.

Now you can build and play in the world of Angry Birds Space!  With the Hogs On Mars building set, you can actually build and destroy a level from the Angry Birds Space game! Launch Incredible Terence and Lightning Bird to defeat the evil Space pigs and destroy the Mars Rover.  Includes a working launcher just like the game, enough parts to build and knock down, plus a bonus Space Egg.  Everything included works with other K'NEX Angry Birds sets.  You can even download instructions for an additional building idea.  Perfect for builders ages 7+.

 My Thoughts

The Angry Birds Red Planet Building Set combines two of my children's favorite things in one incredible package.  Angry birds really come to life with the Hogs on Mars set. Its quick and easy to put together but the fun doesn't end when the building is done. There's a sling shot that allows you to catapult the four action figure and slam apart the walls. Then you have the fun of rebuilding it all over again.

TINKERTOY: 65 Piece Essentials Building Set

Build a whole bunch with your favorite TINKERTOY parts! The TINKERTOY 65 Piece Essential building set features fan-favorite TINKERTOY parts including spools, rods, flags, washers, end caps and more. Set is perfect for first-time builders and comes with a colorful instruction sheet that features building tips and ideas. Package doubles as a sturdy, storage box for easy clean-up and portability. Suggested retail price is $22.99. Ages 3+.

My Thoughts

TinkerToys fill in that middle ground between baby blocks and complicated building sets. The pieces are a bigger than regular Knex so they are easier for small hands to maneuver, but offer a greater challenge then more juvenile playsets.  This edition comes with 65 pieces that snap eaisily into place along with a book with instructions. There are seven building ideas including a chair and swing,  but the possibilities are only as limited as your imagination.

SUPER MARIO: Prongo™ Building Set
Inspired by Super Mario 3DLand, this awesome set allows you to build Raccoon Mario and battle Prongo! Featuring jumping action and a secret room, this set also includes pipes, a flag, jump panels and coins. Suggested retail price is $34.99. Ages 8+.
Available at Toys R Us, Amazon.com and knex.com

My Thoughts

Mario steps of the screen in this limited edition building set. Complete with tubes, bricks, coins and flags, this 3D edition has it all. There are 208 pieces so kids will enjoy hours of creative time putting the set together. But even when the building is done, there are still hours of fun playtime in store. The  two action figures can journey through Mario land and play out the challenges usually only seen in the virtual world. This was a big hit with my son. He especially loves Mario in his raccoon suit. For anyone who is a fan or a collector of Mario Brothers, this is a must have edition.

K’NEX Building Sets: Extreme Sports
Cool extreme sports builds will capture young builders’ imaginations! Extreme Sports building set features 10 building ideas including a hang glider, jet skier, sky diver, sport bike rider and more. Build your own daring stunt man complete with the included helmet-head and then create an action-packed stunt of your own imagination for him to complete. Set also features full-color instructions and 250+ Classic K’NEX pieces including made in the USA rods & connectors. Suggested retail price is $17.99. Ages 7+. Available on knex.com

My Thoughts

The extreme sports set is perfect for summer time. Its like having ten toys in one because kids can create a variety if different extreme sports action figures. Ride a motorcycle, catch a wave, sail a boat or hang glide. These are just a few of the options. The 258 piece set comes with detailed instructions that most children eight and older will be able to handle independently.  My son's favorite was the canoe. Such a unique and original building set.

Lincoln Logs REDFIELD RANCH

Build a home on the range!  Lincoln Logs Redfield Ranch includes 124 real wood logs plus colorful figures and other building accessories. Step-by-step instructions for building a ranch complete with a horse and cowboy figure.  Parts come in a newly designed and collectible storage container, so clean-up is quick and easy. Available at Toys R Us

My Thoughts

The Lincoln Logs are my favorite of all the building play-sets I've reviewed. They are classics that bring back a touch of the old days. This set comes with 124 pieces that enable children to create a realistic western scene. Build a house a stable, complete with horses and cowboys. There are even  watering troughs and bails of hay. Its simple enough for my three year old to play with but still exciting enough that the older kids want to join in. The fun is never ending this with interactive building set.
